I bought this book because I was interested in experiencing a written perspective of a story that seemed like it would resonate with me I am an introvert and spend the majority of my free time alone I am content being single especially as I abhor dating and doing most activities of daily life on my own Having read several chapters of Anneli Rufus s Party of One I am unsure that I could classify myself as a loner and I certainly do not think that she should in any way claim to represent all who prefer their own company to that of othersLet s just start with the fact that this book is repetitive and boring Rufus uses the same language again and again to describe the pervasive socialization of normal people and the repulsed disdain for these antics from loners Rufus seems resentful of all non loners as though they have damaged her in some way writing about how judged she feels eating breakfast alone at a Las Vegas restaurant for instance I m just not sure where she s coming from
