J.D. Salinger × 6 DOWNLOAD REVIEW · PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB × J.D. Salinger DOWNLOAD The Ocean Full of Bowling Balls î PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB The story was initially going to appear in Harper's Bazaar but Salinger withdrew the story before publication This story is available only in the Princeton library Those who wish to read. In case you haven t heard JD Salinger author of Catcher In the Rye has had three stories leaked to the web Catcher In The Rye is my favourite book and having the chance to read its preuel is phenomenal to me My thoughtsVincent is the kid trying to grow up too fast Trying to control his life before it needs controlling writing drama and not going swimming when he s wearing a hat Holden is afraid of growing up He s out of control Kenneth had to grow up too uickly because of his heart condition and is angry and constantly searching for the childhood he s been deprived of He never had any controlWhen Kenneth asks Vincent why he writes bad things why tragedy should be realistic why people have to take revenge on each other why he mistreats his characters and that drama would be good he s asking why he has to suffer to fit into society Why the people who have control use it to make others suffer Why growing up has to be a bad thingThe saddest part is when Kenneth stares at the stormy ocean he wants other people to suffer because he knows he s going to die He lets go of wanting everyone to be happy He knows even though he ll die he ll be alive in his brothers memories his memory making them suffer And he s happy about it because his brothers got the chance to be children where he never didThe truly brilliant writing is that even though Kenneth could ve been played as the victim with his heart condition or could ve been some hate sworn hero he wasn t either He was a happy kid who wanted the best for other people who had his world destroyed by the fact that nothing about his life would ever be perfect It just wouldn tThe way Salinger weaves good and bad and in between into this book Adult reticence versus telling people you love them indulging in childlike simplicity and naivety good and bad versus the focus on adult comprimise and complex neutrality The way the book starts out that Kenneth wants people to remember to be a kid and embrace love and acceptance naive foolishness while you still can It s the story of a kid who tried to grow up too fast who wanted adult control and was faced with the horror of responsibility and loss and sacrifice Like Jean in snkThe Catcher In The Rye was the pivotal book of my teenage years It showed me that adults can be very cruel and people are very complicated But most of all it showed me the purity of one well intended wish never fulfilled and a boy s love for his sister and his brothers The fact that Holden wants to protect the children from growing up because his little brother never got the chance to be a kid had to deal with his own uick mortality it s heartbreaking I m in tears just thinking about it Holden talks to adults who don t care about the childlike innocence of Vincent s love for friendly fun stupid ignorant Poepe and her kings in the back row Holden talks about how innocence was important to Kenneth and realizes in the end how corrupt adults are How rotten society is Holden says he didn t really learn anything in the end because he couldn t save anyone with idealism But Kenneth couldn t break his brothers with his cynicism either And the ending Vincent wants to grow up after all on the surface he wants to forget Kenneth But what he secretly wants is to never forget him to love him and to have fun with him forever But he knows he can t That s why he says tell people you love them Because he was adult and aloof and reticent when Kenneth was alive and because growing up means hatred and betrayal and heartbreak and if you get a chance to see the good that makes it a little bit less hollowThe Catcher In the Rye changed my life It made me so angry about society and its cruelty It made me grateful for the beautiful people in the world who reached for dreams they knew would never come true Their courage floored meNow I m older reading The Ocean of Bowling Balls is like looking at an old friend and seeing why a disease can stem from hope for the world It makes me feel small and humble that people can fail in such small ways and remember so fondly and grasp shortly That Kenneth really changed Vincent s life his entire paradigm and outlook for a few moments that Kenneth s memory kept Holden alive kept him inspired Sometimes I feel like I don t matter that the things I make aren t real and have no significance but this book man Kenneth s impact on Holden was literally monumental Holden s impact on society was The Ocean Full of Bowling Balls talks about power and making your own choices Sometimes when it can be so hard to have faith in your own decisions the knowledge that they are dynamic whether they re the right choices or not It reminds you not to take life lightly to take yourself seriously and to try to understand the best you can That you truly make a difference
