Pucker Up Damsels of Distress #1 review · 3 summary ☆ eBook or Kindle ePUB ¹ R.A. Gates Ivy always thought that breaking a curse with True Love’s Kiss was the ultimate romantic gesture in fairy tales But when she has to plant one on a prince who’s been dead for 200 years it’s just grossAfter the “incident” seventeen year old Ivy discovers she’s a witch and she’s not at all happy about it An underground organization of human warriors called the Eradicators are hunting her like they do all other creatures tainted with magic witches and wizards werewolves vampires and fae to name a few To escape she’s found refuge in Salm. I so loved this book The beginning jumps right into the story plot and goes trough the story at an appropriate speed Though I have to say it isn t that kid friendly and is recommended for older teens It has some werid paranormal scenes that can give nightmares to little kids and immature ones But back to the positive great good ending twist at the end You immediately get hooked up into the story There is character and characterattraction that they try to hide Well done author and a bit of a love triangle though the love tri ends uickly and there are no r rated love scenes So relax But they are love gestures that are appropriate Through out the whole book it is very interesting and will keep you in deep And the end will make you beg for the next book Enjoy

Pucker Up Damsels of Distress #1 review · 3 summary ☆ eBook or Kindle ePUB ¹ R.A. Gates Agundi; a town hidden behind magical wards to anyone who doesn’t use magic But she can’t relax yet The secret she keeps about her past could get her killed if discovered Keeping a low profile is her main goal Too bad Garren the most obnoxious pretentious and not hot guy she ever met won’t leave her alone No other person on the planet can get her blood racing like he canNow the wards are failing putting every resident in danger of being discovered by the EradicatorsThankfully a possible solution has been found and Ivy is the key All she has to. I overpaid for this book by at least 2 Serious buyer s remorse on a limited budget The description does not accurately represent the bookI didn t hate the book So there s thatThe ideaworld behind it is interesting There are the bones of a really great book buried deep under the exceptionally poor plottingThe author essentially dumps us into what should be the second act of a real book then promptly cuts everything off before the third act I don t know if leaving out all backstory explanation no matter how relevant to the plot and character development it is I don t know if the author is attempting to add suspense and let it slowly unravel for the reader and just failing at it or if the author thinks it s all easily inferred from context To be honest yeah one of the two big twists is easy to spot from like the second page but I m pretty sure that s accidentalThere is no character development though the characters have the promise of being interesting even the minor side ones But they re all just sorta left thereAbsolutely none of the conflict in the book is resolved by the end but the cliffhanger ending doesn t feel interesting organic or appropriate because there was no real build up to it at all Seriously it s like the whole first 13 and last 13 of the book were cut offLook my brother is a successful professional screenwriter and novelist This feels like the stuff he wrote when he was 15 Very promising but poorly developed and so amateur you can t even call it a freshman work The author desperately needs a crit groupI m torn between saying don t buy it because it really isn t worth the 3 and not wanting to discourage an author who could be really excellent in a few years and after a few stories if they work really hardCaveat emptor

Pucker Up centers on Ivy a reluctant witch who finds herself on a uest to wake up sleeping Prince Sebastian Ivy lives in Salmagundi the place of refuge for anyone with magic hiding from the witch hunting Eradicators Unfortunately the spells hiding the town are breaking down Ivy s cousin Thane believes the answer is to wake up Prince Sebastian who created the spells to begin with Ivy needs the reward money to pay a debt to a very angry werewolf As a descendant of Sebastian s true love she should be able to wake him up with True Love s kissexcept that she really doesn t want to kiss a dead guyI always approve of heroines who set off to do things rather than waiting for a man to save the day and I love the twist of a girl needing to wake up a prince instead of the other way around Ivy is a fun somewhat reluctant heroine with good mysteries in her past that kept me curious as I read The book also keeps moving with a series of adventures on the journey to find the prince We get a whole host of magical creatures including vampires and werewolves and even dragons like a cute baby dragon nicknamed SparkyThere are serious moments but overall there s a light tone to the book It s freuently funny in a tongue in cheek wayas with the ongoing series of necrophilia jokes I love retellings that are aware of the absurdities in their inspiration materialWhen Ivy and Thane set off on their uest they re accompanied by Thane s friend Garren who Ivy finds immensely irritating Don t expect too many surprises in the romance departmentbut even if it s a bit predictable it s fun to read And there are surprises in the plotThis is the first book in a series and with some twists in the ending I m excited to see where it goes in the next book Alas not published yetI think I ll finish up by borrowing a line from Ivy s dialogue on the last page it s not a spoiler and I think it sums up the book nicely Don t even think you re rescuing me I m no damsel in distress
